Overview

Okwa Andrew: Drummer/Programmer/Author hails originally from Kisumu, Kenya and now resides bi-coastal between Washington, DC and Los Angeles, CA. Okwa received his introduction to the life of music through the church. It was there where he was involved in the youth choir and founded their first full drum corp. Later, at age fifteen, Okwa also became enthusiastic about hand percussion. Upon turning seventeen years of age, Okwa became the main drummer in the church band. Fortunately for him, Mt. Airy Church of God In Christ (a 3500 seat congregation) provided him the platform that would prepare him for the many experiences to follow.

Currently, Okwa has kept busy in a plethora of areas, including authoring an upcoming series of children’s instructional music literature, studio work and managing a new company: Okwa Andrew Solutions, that is serving professional musicians internationally.

With fifteen years experience, Okwa had the pleasure of working in various capacities with Chrisette Michelle, Ben Kenny, SuperGrub, Aries, John Legend, Estelle, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, Jennifer Lopez, Justin Timberlake, BlackEyePea’s, The Roots, Common, N’Dambi, Paul Green School Of Rock and Guitar Center Lesson Studios.

Okwa Andrew been endorsed by Pearl Drums since 2014 and playing them exclusively since 2006.
