There are few musicians that consistently display a kind musical versatility and flexibility Gary Husband effortlessly seems to achieve. He has been lending his distinctive and dynamic presence to a plethora of musical styles with many of the world’s greatest musicians over the last few decades, and enjoys a fine international reputation for continuing to do so. Not only this, he double-duties on keyboards and is known the world over for his highly developed piano style and achievements as a composer, arranger and bandleader.
His distinctive style – first heard in the big band and classical realms – came to international prominence as far back as 1980, establishing his remarkable empathy with guitar virtuoso Allan Holdsworth. Since then, his inimitable touch has graced recordings by artists such as John McLaughlin, Gary Moore, Gongzilla, Jack Bruce & Robin Trower, Steve Topping, Billy Cobham John McLaughlin’s 4th Dimension, Mo Foster, British group Level 42, Germany’s NDR Big Band and many others. As a touring artist he is also regularly on the road internationally with artists such as Holdsworth, John McLaughlin, Mike Stern and many others. He also has played with artists such as Al Jarreau, Jeff Beck, Vinnie Colaiuta, Maria Schneider, Tony Levin, Steve Hackett, Peter Erskine, Simon Phillips, Joe Lovano, Andy Summers to mention only a few.
Of his many solo projects his inspired 4-piece jazz quartet (Gary Husband’s Drive) released the album Hotwired in 2009, and his highly-acclaimed Force Majeure group in 2004/2005 featured a personnel that included Randy Brecker, Jerry Goodman, Jim Beard, Matthew Garrison among others. His recent Dirty & Beautiful album project (in two volumes) highlights Husband’s long-standing and celebrated approach to the jazz/fusion realm and features performers such as Jan Hammer, Allan Holdsworth, Jerry Goodman, John McLaughlin, Steve Hackett, Robin Trower, Jimmy Herring, Alex Machacek and a good many others.) He is also an internationally acclaimed drum clinician and has performed in this capacity alongside Terry Bozzio, Dennis Chambers, Billy Cobham, Omar Hakim, Ricky Lawson, Bernard Purdie, Todd Sucherman, Vinnie Colaiuta and countless others.
