Overview
Adam Wade, also known as “Smiley” was born in 1995 in the vibrant town of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England. To parents Kenneth and Arlene. From a young age, his innate talent and love for music were unmistakable.
Growing up in High Wycombe, Smiley’s initial inspiration stemmed from the soulful rhythms of
gospel music.
Deeply connected to gospel music, Smiley musical exploration began early, expanding his horizons across various genres. Influenced by his older brother, Christian Wade, a two-sport global athlete, and the musical expertise of Andre Atherley, a prolific drummer in the local church community, Smiley’s exposure to music flourished. Regular jams with Andre’s brothers Justin and Duane, organised by Smiley’s father, Ken, enriched his musical journey. Smiley further refined his drumming skills when his family transitioned to a new church in South London. Learning from leading UK musicians, including Velroy Bailey, Jerry Brown, Gareth Brown, Emlyn Maillard, the late Joey Grant, Josh McKenzie, Andrew Smith, Darren Benjamin, Dexter Hercules, Julian Golding, and others, Smiley absorbed knowledge like a sponge in an environment where high standards prevailed.
Listening to Andre Atherley captivating drumming in church every Sunday became a transformative experience for Smiley. The rhythm and spirit of the church music scene became integral to his musical education. Immersed in this environment, Smiley not only discovered the emotional power of music but also recognised its ability to convey stories, inspire, and foster connections. A standout moment was when Don Chandler, who knew Smiley from his early years, invited both Chris and Smiley accompanied by their Dad to attend a live music night known as Shebu in Shepherds Bush. Although Smiley was around age 10, under the guidance of his Dad and Don, both Chris and Smiley wowed the crowd; playing a song or two each with their drumming ability at such young ages.
Deeply embedded in the local music community, Smiley honed his skills, crafting a unique musical style.
The amalgamation of gospel influences and personal experiences contributed to the development of a distinctive sound, setting him apart in the field.
At 28 years old, Smiley stands as a testament to his exceptional achievements in the musical realm.
