Overview
Dr. Tom Nevill is Vice President of Academics at Butler Community College and has over 20 years of higher education experience in a variety of administrative and faculty roles. At Butler, he provides direction and guidance for faculty and staff to foster academic excellence and led the initiative to becoming the first Adobe Creative Campus in Kansas (50th in the world). Prior to joining the Butler community, he was the founding Dean of Arts & Digital Media at Austin Community College in Austin, TX. Previous administrative experience includes Dean of Arts & Humanities at Pima Community College in Tucson, AZ, and Division Chair (dean equivalent) of Business, Creative and Performing Arts at Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown, NC. He was Chair of the NASM accredited Department of Music and founded the internationally recognized Percussion Studies Program at the University of Texas at Brownsville while achieving the rank of Associate Professor of Music with Tenure. During his time at UTB, he was a two-time finalist for the UT Regent’s Outstanding Teaching Award, was the recipient of the NISOD Excellence Award, and created the first Mexican Marimba band in the US for college credit.
Dr. Nevill has remained a performer and percussion advocate as a long-time member of the Percussive Arts Society and continues to be an artist/clinician for Evans Drumheads, Pearl/Adams Musical Instruments, SABIAN cymbals, and a member of the Vic Firth Sticks and Mallets Education Team. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from Eastern Illinois University and earned his Master’s and Doctor of Musical Arts in Percussion Performance from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
