Hannah Ransom

Overview
Hannah Ransom is a percussionist and music educator whose work has been informed by her passion for concert percussion, immersion in world traditions, and advocacy for diversity in the fields of music performance and composition.
Based in her musically rich hometown of Missoula, MT, Hannah is the Interim Professor of Percussion at the University of Montana for the 2025-26 academic year. She further serves the area’s students of all ages as a private teacher, percussion coach, and festival adjudicator. She performs regularly with the Missoula Symphony Orchestra, the electro-acoustic band Desert Fantasy, steel pan group Quartet Caribe, and other ad-hoc chamber groups. Since 2024 Hannah has served on the board of New Works Project, a non-profit community cooperative focused on breaking down barriers in the commissioning of new compositions.
Hannah has studied Western percussion with Megan Arns, Bob LedBetter, Brett Reed, and Morris Palter, and non-Western percussion with Emmanuel Agbeli (Ghana), Jerome Balsab (Ghana), and I Made Lasmawan (Bali) in the U.S. and abroad. She holds a DMA in percussion performance with a doctoral minor in ethnomusicology from the University of Arizona, a master’s degree in percussion performance from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and bachelor’s degrees in both music education and performance from the University of Montana.
