Overview
Gary Seligson is a sought after free-lance drummer in NYC. He is a musician who has recorded and performed with a wide range of artists and has been featured in Modern Drummer, and DRUM magazine four times. For over twenty years, he has worked primarily as a drummer/percussionist for Broadway shows.
Currently he is playing for the 10 time Tony award winning Elton John musical BILLY ELLIOT. In 2007 he played for the world premier of Cirque Du Soleil’s WINTUK. He was chosen by Phil Collins to be the drummer for the Broadway company of Disney’s TARZAN (composed by Phil Collins), and is also featured on the cast album. Prior to Tarzan, Gary was the original drummer for the wildly successful show WICKED (Grammy Award for the recording, which has since gone Platinum) and helped to create some of the Dance Arrangements. Before that he played for Elton John’s AIDA (Tony award- best score, and Grammy Award-best show album) Gary’s contributions in AIDA earned him a credit for Dance Arrangements as well. For both WICKED and AIDA he is also credited with the electronic drum programming.
Through the years he has also played for MAMMA MIA, LEGALLY BLOND, SPRING AWAKENING, LITTLE MERMAID, SPAMALOT, GREASE, THE LION KING, RENT, CHICAGO, MISS SAIGON, LES MISERABLES, DREAMGIRLS, THE GERSHWIN’S’ FASCINATING RHYTHM, and others.
Gary has performed and/or recorded with a wide range of artists including: Elton John, Phil Collins, Leann Rimes, Phoebe Snow, Brian Johnson (from ACDC), Ben Vereen, Heather Headley, Toni Braxton, Joel Grey, Taylor Dane, Billy Porter, Adam Pascal, Idina Menzel, and The Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
Gary is a graduate of the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford where he studied with Alexander Lepak.
