Overview

Sean McElroy got his start in rudimental percussion at the age of sixteen. As a sophomore at Bear Creek High School, he joined the winter percussion ensemble and immediately found a fierce passion for marching percussion. After participating in most of the school’s music ensembles, Sean became a member of the bass line for the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps from Denver, Colorado.  He marched in the Blue Knights bass line for the summers of 2000, 2001 and 2002. Along with participating in the Drum Corps, Sean became heavily involved in the Blue Knights winter percussion ensemble where he marched in the snare line for the 2001 and 2002 seasons and taught the open class ensemble from 2002 through 2006.  Sean finished his marching career by becoming a member of the bass line for the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps during the 2003 season.
 

While teaching the Blue Knights, Sean developed a strong to desire to start a career in percussion/music education. Throughout his residency in Denver, he taught with many different high schools throughout the metro area including: Arvada, Pomona, Bear Creek and Legacy High School.  While his main position with most of the high schools was a battery technician, he began getting involved in visual design for winter ensembles.  Throughout his career he taught many groups that became Colorado State Champions and WGI National Finalist.  In 2007, Sean became the visual designer for the Blue Knights World Class Percussion Ensemble helping to lead them to a bronze medal at the WGI World Championships and a 6th place finish in 2008. Sean is also the bass tech for the 8-time DCI World Champion Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps, a position he has held since 2004. He currently resides in Plymouth, Michigan and is the Percussion Director at Plymouth-Canton High School and is the Visual Designer/Battery Arranger and Coordinator for East Side Fury, a WGI World Class Percussion Ensemble from Harrison Township, MI.
