Overview

Raised in a small town north of Boston called Peabody, Jonathan began playing late in his thirteenth year. Working his way from a pad to his first kit, he practiced constantly to his favorite records and drummers. His playing style was influenced heavily by English progressive rock and American artists such as Frank Zappa, Todd Rundgren, and The Tubes.

Jonathan studied drumkit and then progressed by learning and incorporating tuned percussion into his configuration. Concentrating mainly on tympani, glock and vibes, it came in very handy when he accepted the offer to tour with one of the largest unsigned acts of New England, 'The Incredible Two Man Band', otherwise known as ITMB.

After a brief stint at Berklee College of Music, he decided to seek out and study privately with Gary Chaffee. Spending about six months working with Gary and covering as much of his material as possible, along with a few more local recording sessions, and Jonathan was ready to make the move to London.

There his gigs included Mike Corby, Toyah, and Marillion which eventually led to teaming up with Steve Howe (YES) and Steve Hackett (GENESIS) to form the rock supergroup GTR. Jonathan then moved back to the States in '88 and has performed and/or recorded with Joe Satriani, Alice Cooper, Aretha Franklin, Mick Jagger, Peter Frampton, Frank Gambale, Joe Lynn Turner and others.

Composing and producing were the next ventures, which resulted in his first solo effort, a progressive rock trio known as einstein. The follow-up release, entitled einstein too, has just been completed. It includes Jonathan and partner Stan Jankowski, along with appearances from guest artists such as Trey Gunn (King Crimson), Jens Johannsen (Yngwie Malmsteen), Al Pitrelli (Savatage/Alice Cooper), D.C. Cooper (Royal Hunt), Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater) and others.
