Overview

Darcey Timmerman is a percussion section member with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. Her time with the MPO has included tours to Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Australia. She is also a section member with the Colorado Music Festival.

She has held Principal Percussion posts with the Sarasota Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Evansville Philharmonic and Owensboro Symphony Orchestras, and performed with ensembles including The Philadelphia Orchestra, the symphony orchestras of Florida, Delaware, Nashville, Charleston, and Florida West Coast, the Naples Philharmonic, and the Network for New Music in Philadelphia. She has worked under the batons of conductors including Kees Bakels, Donald Runnicles, Spiros Agiris, Seiji Ozawa, Robert Spano, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Michael Tilson Thomas, Marin Alsop, Paul Dyer, Osmo Vänskä, Bernard Labadie, and Alan Gilbert.

Her past summer engagements include the Santa Fe Opera, Colorado Music Festival, Sun Valley Summer Symphony, Tanglewood, Aspen, Spoleto, National Repertory Orchestra, AIMS, and Pierre Monteux Festivals. She is also a former percussion faculty member of University of Miami’s Frost School of Music.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in performance from the University of North Texas, and a Master’s degree in performance from Temple University, where she studied with Alan Abel of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Her teachers include Doug Howard, Kalman Cherry, Don Liuzzi, Robert Schietroma, and Ed Soph. She can be heard with the MPO on several recordings by Bis, and as a chamber musician on John Kennedy’s One Body by Santa Fe New Music.
