Ricardo Ferrer
Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra
Overview
He started in sports at a young age, but it wasn’t a perfect fit. His mom recommended music, and the rest is history. He started playing the drum set at age 10 and would perform in his local church, soon becoming enchanted by the world of percussion. By age 12, he was accepted into the Pablo Casals Fine Arts School, where he mainly focused on percussion and timpani.
Recently appointed as Assistant Timpanist/Section Percussionist with the Puerto Rico Symphony starting in the 2024/2025 season, Ricardo holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Conservatory of Music in Puerto Rico, where he studied with José Alicea Espada. He also earned a master’s degree at Boston University under the guidance of Tim Genis, Sam Solomon, and Kyle Brightwell. He has been blessed enough to also take lessons with renowned percussionist such as: Matt Howard, Joe Pereira, Ted Atkatz, Nancy Zeltsman, Matt Smalcomb, Thomas Burritt and many more.
