What is it you like so much about playing Pearl Drums?

The sheer versatility is incredible: I can play a brutal hardcore show in a club, then a huge open air festival to 40,000 metalheads, via a reggae/ ragga/ hip-hop radio session, thru to a soulful bluesy folk recording & out to a pop-rock gig...all with the same rig!! A few minor tweaks & my kit can be ready & adaptable for any situation...& I mean any!! With other drum manufacturers it's a case of "Let's see what you can do..." With Pearl, it's a case of "Let's see what you can't do..."!

Which drummer/band influenced you most into playing drums?

Early on, it was Iron Maiden, The Police, & Adam & The Ants - there's some seriously original stuff going on there... So basically, equal parts Clive Burr, Nicko McBrain & Stewart Copeland!! Oh, & the Kodo drummers! Nowadays, I really respect the playing & work ethic (not to mention the C.V!) of Jimmy DeGrasso, Morgan Rose, Roy Mayorga, Chad Smith, Vinnie Paul & Ron Bruner Jnr.

Who in your mind are the drummers of tomorrow?

Anybody who, with a kick on 1, & a snare on 3, can cause countless people to feel good & nod their heads/ tap their feet!! There should also be more female drummers - c'mon girls - go check out Samantha Maloney - she replaced Tommy Lee & Randy Castillo in Motley Crue!! Basically, anyone who oozes inspiration...step on up!

What do you like most about being a drummer?

The energy, vibe, emotion and sweat & burn of the live show, inc warm up & preparation, the ability to drive a song, the cameraderie (all fellow drummers just get along don't they!), & the fact that a shite band with a great drummer, will always sound better than a great band with a shite drummer! Now what does that tell you about the importance of (good) drummers...?

What is the worst thing to happen to you during a show?

5 days into a 55-shows-in-60-days tour of the USA, I impaled my head on my stick, onstage. It went thru my eyelid, but narrowly missed my eyeball. & I still had 1/2 the set to play(!) so I played on, with one eye sealing up with blood & sweat. The tech dislocated his arm while running onstage to bring me ice, so we both went to hospital. Except I got sent to the downtown ghetto one - where they patch up prison inmates...Yes, there were guns being pulled on patients. After seeing (no pun intended!) 13 doctors, they stitched my eye up, & I left hospital - still in stagegear - at 7am, to continue the tour as I had a show that night!!

What do you practice and for how long?

I don't practice. If I did, I might be really good. ;o)

What is your best advice to a young player wanting to make it in this industry?

NEVER. EVER. GIVE. UP. EVER.

If you had the chance to play drums for another artist who would it be?

Anyone who puts on a huge show, so Iron Maiden, Rob/ White Zombie, Motorhead would be fun. Failing that, Soulfly, Suicidal Tendencies, Transplants & err, Vanilla Ice!
