Overview
Greg Apple is a percussionist with the South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra located in Columbia, SC. He also performs with the Rock Hill Symphony Orchestra in Rock Hill, SC. He is an active performer around the state of SC and is resident percussionist for Trustus Theatre. Mr. Apple is former Director of Percussion Studies at Claflin University and Presbyterian College in SC. Prior to his appointment at PC; he was Director of Percussion Studies/Assistant Director of Bands at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. Mr. Apple was also Assistant Director of Bands/Percussion Coordinator for the DeSoto Independent School District in Desoto, Texas. He has also been a staff member for the University of North Texas Marching Percussion Camps. Prior to his tenure in Desoto, Apple taught privately at Marcus High School in Flower Mound, TX. He was also Assistant Director of Bands/Percussion Coordinator at Victoria High School in Victoria, TX.
Mr. Apple holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from East Carolina University and a Master of Music degree in percussion performance from Baylor University. His primary teachers included Mark Ford, Harold Jones and Larry Vanlandingham. Mr. Apple maintains an active schedule as a freelance percussionist and has presented various clinics and performances throughout the East Coast, Midwest and Texas areas. He has also performed with the national tour of ‘Beautiful, the Carole King Story’ as well as artists Melissa Manchester and Aretha Franklin. He has also been a percussionist with the Tar River, Waco, Victoria, Augusta and Florence Symphonies.
