Overview

Young-eun is the drummer of the leading Korean rock band, Rolling Quartz.
Her musical tastes lie firmly in rock and metal, and she is especially drawn to music that delivers memorable, melodic hooks wrapped in a heavy, punchy sound.
That blend of catchiness and weight shapes both what she listens to and how she plays.

Her path to the drums began in middle school, when she stumbled upon a live band performance.
The resonating punch of the kick drum vibrating through the venue immediately captivated her, and the instrument naturally drew her in.
Soon afterward, with the encouragement of her teacher, she began learning the drums in earnest.
That first encounter with the physical power of the kick drum has stayed with her.

Young-eun plays the Pearl Masters Maple Gum, and it suits both her playing and her band.
She values its robust, dependable hardware, which lets her play with complete comfort and peace of mind.
In her view, the kit delivers a powerful, projecting sound with a rich, well-defined resonance that cuts through in live performances, a natural match for the rock music Rolling Quartz plays.
She also considers its aesthetics outstanding, calling the kit “an absolute joy to play”.

"I love Rock and Metal, and I especially favor music that delivers memorable, melodic hooks with a heavy, punchy sound."

What Inspired You to Start Playing the Drums?

"My passion for instruments began when I stumbled upon a live band performance in middle school. I was immediately captivated by the resonating punch of the kick drum vibrating through the venue, which naturally drew me to the drums. Shortly after, with the encouragement of my teacher, I began learning the instrument in earnest."

Do You Have a Personal Practice Routine?

“Before getting behind the kit, I thoroughly warm up my hands on a practice pad with rudiment and stroke exercises. Once on the kit, I tackle challenging sections first before running through entire tracks.

Whenever I encounter a difficult fill-in or groove, I isolate it with a metronome—starting at a slow tempo and gradually working my way up to the original speed. Finally, I record my playing on my phone to listen back and review areas that need improvement.”

What Do You Like Most About Your Current PEARL Drum Kit?

"I really appreciate the robust and dependable hardware, which allows me to play with complete comfort and peace of mind. The kit delivers a powerful, projecting sound with a rich, well-defined resonance that cuts through in live performances, perfectly complementing the rock music we play in our band. On top of that, the aesthetics are outstanding, making it an absolute joy to play."
