Overview

Jason B. Hentges began playing percussion at a young age and was immediately captivated by it. Jason grew up like many drummers, playing in grade school concert band, junior high concert band/marching band and eventually, high school marching band, concert band, and jazz band. Jason was fortunate to have attended West High School in Bakersfield, California, which had a very successful marching band program.  In the summer of 1989, Jason was introduced to the Concord Blue Devils, who stayed at the very high school Jason was attending. As a result, Jason was hooked. In 1990, Jason sought out legendary rudimental snare drummer Robert Carson. After auditioning for Robert, Jason was added to Robert’s very impressive stable of drum students. For the next four years, Jason would study rudimental and classical snare drum, as well as piano and theory as one of Mr. Carson’s master students.

In 1992, Jason played the snare drum for the Velvet Knights Drum and Bugle Corps from Anaheim, California under the direction of famed percussion director, Mr. Tom Float. In 1993, Jason played the snare drum for the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps from Santa Clara, California under the direction of world renowned marching percussion specialist, Scott Johnson. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Jason was unable to complete the season.

For more than two decades, Jason has been an active percussion educator and consultant in the Kern County / Bakersfield, California region. Jason was Director of Percussion for Stockdale High School, Ridgeview High School, and North High School in Bakersfield. In addition, Jason has a thriving private studio located in Bakersfield.  Many of Jason’s students have gone on to march at Division 1 college marching programs, as well as Drum Corps International.

Jason B. Hentges attended California State University, Bakersfield’s School of Business, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing; Jason then went on to earn a Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in management.
