Alexander David John Powys (Alex Powys) is a 26 year old Sydney based drummer, who utilises his experience in the Australian music industry to foster and support a strong community of like-minded musicians (especially drummers) in order to grow Australia's musical talents.
 
Alex started playing drums at the young age of 12, after his grandmother gifted him with a cheap drum kit to play on after he expressed his interest in drums after buying the American Idiot album by Green Day and Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park. 
 
Only a few weeks after, Alex's grandmother passed away and he found it within himself to pursue drumming in honour of his late grandmother. This would in turn, create a passion from drumming and music which drives Alex to be better every day.
 
Alex started playing in bands through high school, as well as joining stage and jazz bands in order to increase his knowledge and skill set. Alex also took lessons for 3 years at Hornsby Academy of Music, later taking lessons from Dan Furnari from Sydney metal band Polaris for only a short period. 
 
RedHook is Alex's longest running and most successful project, joining with them in mid 2019, which saw them tour Europe, Australia multiple times and playing festivals like Download in the UK and Australia. Alex and RedHook were also able to share the stage with legendary bands including Slipknot, Metallica, A Day To Remember, Sum 41, The Amity Affliction, Three Days Grace, Spiderbait, Slayer, All Time Low and many more. 
 
Unfortunately, COVID changed the trajectory of RedHook significantly and the band was forced to release music from their homes and were unable to play any shows for over a year. 
 
Thankfully, the music industry is slowly returning and Alex has been privileged enough to play huge shows, including UNIFY Gathering, Halloween Hysteria, Groovin The Moo, Good Things, a recent album tour with 6 sold out shows across Australia as well as gearing up play Download UK, Rock For People in the Czech Republic and shows supporting Stand Atlantic across UK and Europe.
 
Alex is heavily influenced by drummers such as Matt Gartska from Animals As Leaders, Eloy Casagrande from Sepultura, Patrick Galante from Ice Nine Kills, Matthew Minugs from Dance Gavin Dance, The Rev from Avenged Sevenfold and Brisbane based Troy Wright. 
 
Alex's long term goal is to create a name for himself within the Australian music industry by supporting other musicians and providing his knowledge of drums and performing to those seeking to follow a similar career.
