Walter Moss is currently the band director at Ruston High School in Northern Louisiana and has worked at Ruston High School Since 1993. Mr. Moss earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Louisiana Tech University and Masters of Music degree in Music Conducting from The University of Louisiana at Monroe. He resides in Simsboro, Louisiana with his wife and two children.
Mr. Moss is actively involved as a band and percussion clinician/consultant and has been given the honor of presenting at several professional development music conventions. His percussion ensembles have been featured at numerous ensemble festivals and drum line competitions.
Mr. Moss is involved as a performer, conductor or consultant for the Monroe Symphony Orchestra, Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, the Monroe, Shreveport Metropolitan and Russ-Town Community Bands, Monroe Youth Symphony Orchestra, Three Headed Monster Percussion Group, and Open Class Drum and Bugle Corps. He has served on the board of directors for the Louisiana Music Educator’s Association and is also in demand regionally as a Marching Arts consultant, drill writer and music arranger.
His hobbies include hiking, backpacking and camping. Mr. Moss performs weekly with the “Refuge at Trinity” contemporary Christian band that is broadcast world-wide. He also performs with area church orchestras and contemporary ensembles.
Mr. Moss performs with Pearl Drums / Adams Musical instruments, ProMark drumsticks and mallets, Zildjian cymbals and REMO drumheads.
The Ruston High School Percussion program, located in Northern Louisiana consists of multiple ensembles including Marching Percussion Ensemble, Three Concert Percussion Ensembles, Marimba Band and Brazilian Ensemble.
The Ruston High School Marching Percussion Ensemble has received numerous superior ratings at marching band competitions and festivals. It is also common for this ensemble to win best overall percussion in their division. Ruston’s Concert Percussion ensembles have been featured at the Louisiana Music Educator’s Association Convention, Louisiana Bandmaster’s Association Convention, Four States Band Convention, South Central Regional Music Conference, North Louisiana Youth Percussion Ensemble Festival, Louisiana PAS (Percussive Arts Society) days of percussion and at PASIC (Percussive Arts Society International Convention) Chamber Percussion Ensemble Competition.
