Dr. Virgil Goodwine is the Director of Instrumental Music and Ensembles at Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, Ohio. His duties include overseeing all instrumental ensembles, direct the Wilberforce University Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Winter Drumline and Percussion Ensemble. Additionally, Dr. Goodwine teaches percussion applied lessons, and manages the Wilberforce University recording studio.
A native of Dayton, OH, Virgil received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from Central State University, a Master of Science in Education in Music Education from the University of Dayton, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education in Leadership for Higher Education from Capella University as a graduate with distinction.
Virgil founded the Quarter Note Club, a nonprofit organization that assists at-risk/underprivileged youth with exposure, education, and instruction within the musical arts. He also is a former director of the SCLC/Legacy youth Drumline, former Assistant Band Director and marching percussion coordinator at Central State University, as well as assisted with various high school marching bands and percussion groups within the Ohio area.
Virgil has performed with a variety of groups including the Detroit Pistons Drumline, the Detroit Lions Drumline, the University of Dayton Drumline, percussion ensemble, and both concert and jazz bands, the New Horizons Community Band, the Central State University Drumline and percussion ensemble, as well as hosted a plethora of Drum Clinics and Band Competitions/Festivals throughout the Midwest.
Virgil is a member of the Percussive Arts Society, National Association for Music Education, Michigan Schools Band and Orchestra Association, the Band Room Nation Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfona Fraternity of America, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated, and an endorsee of Pearl/Adams Instruments, Vic Firth Drumsticks, Balter Mallets, and Zildjian Cymbals.
