Paul Casey is a successful performing musician, instructor, arranger, and adjudicator based in San Diego, California. Paul studied percussion at Pepperdine University under Vera Daehlin and Ken McGrath. Paul holds a BS in Cybersecurity and leads the Cybersecurity Incident Response team for a Miami based software company. Paul also studied Information and Decision Systems at San Diego State University where he was the co-founder and assistant director for the 2000 and 2001 San Diego State Indoor Drumline.
Paul is a well-known instructor throughout Southern California. In addition to numerous high school programs, he served as the Director, Program Coordinator and arranger for Alternative Percussion Ensemble based in San Diego, CA from 2005 - 2010. Alternative had many successes in their six year history including four consecutive American Drum Line Association championship titles (2005 - 2008), a silver medal (2009) and gold medal (2010) at SCPA Championships, and were Independent Open finalists at WGI Championships in 2009 and 2010. Prior to Alternative, Paul served as the Percussion Caption Head/ Arranger for the San Diego Alliance Drum & Bugle Corps (2001—2003). In 2004, he joined the staff of Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps where he served as snare technician. Paul has been arranging for percussion since 1996. His arrangements have been performed by numerous high schools, colleges, and drum corps across the United States.
Paul has performed internationally with a very diverse group of ensembles. Paul's performance credits include several orchestras and wind ensembles, musicals (including the Robby award winning production of Into the Woods), top 40 bands (including Liquid Blue, the “World’s most traveled band”), big bands/ jazz combos (The J. Brady Trio, The Jazz Connection), numerous session gigs, and guest appearances with San Diego and Los Angeles based bands.
Paul has served on the American Drum Line Association's board of directors as Director of Technology from 2003-2006 and as Vice President since 2011.
Paul proudly endorses Pearl Drums/ Adams Percussion, Remo drumheads, Vic Firth sticks and mallets, and Zildjian cymbals.
