Micah Harrow serves as Acting Principal Timpani with the Utah Symphony, starting in the 2024/2025 season. He previously served as Principal timpani with the New World Symphony and the New Mexico Philharmonic. He has also performed as a guest with the San Francisco Symphony, Oslo Philharmonic, Kansas City Symphony, and Rochester Philharmonic, among others. He also will join the Grand Tetons Music Festival Orchestra for 2025. 

 

Micah earned his undergraduate degree at the Eastman School of Music with Michael Burritt and Charles Ross, where he was awarded a Performer’s Certificate. During that time, he also served as timpanist with the Erie Philharmonic. He went on to earn his master’s at San Francisco Conservatory as a student of Ed Stephan and Jake Nissly. During the summers, he attended Aspen Music Festival as an ACA fellow, Texas Music Festival and National Orchestral Institute. 

 

Micah is fortunate to have performed on two GRAMMY nominated albums, one with the San Francisco Symphony, and one with the National Orchestral Institute Philharmonic. He has also recorded with the Kansas City Symphony. 

 

As a chamber musician, Micah has performed with the Eastman Percussion Ensemble, NOVA chamber music Salt Lake City, and Chatter ABQ, and premiered percussion works at the Aspen Music Festival. He has also performed as marimba soloist with the Rochester Philharmonic, performing Séjourné’s Concerto for Marimba and Strings. 

 

Micah is also a frequent drumset performer, and plays with his band, The Kenaniah Project, which enjoys a summer residency at Camp-of-the-Woods in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. They have also recorded two full-length albums. 

 

Aside from music, Micah is an avid freshwater angler. He also enjoys trying to speak French with his wife, Joëlla.
