Dennis Chambers & the Reference Pure Series

The legendary, multi-Grammy award winning guitarist, Carlos Santana, is wrapping up his North American Tour, sure to be one of the biggest and best tours of the year. With 27 concerts, stopping in 25 different cities, spanning into the month of October, this lengthy trek is slated to stop at every major amphitheater and arena throughout the western regions of the US and Canada, including multiple nights at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado, and ACL Live at The Moody Theater in Austin, Texas. Although he is mostly known for being one of the greatest guitar players in history, Carlos Santana is also highly recognized for performing one of the most entertaining live concerts today, with high production and even higher caliber musicianship in his world renowned band.

In order to backup one of history’s greatest; you also need to be one of history’s greatest…That’s where Dennis Chambers comes in. It’s hard to list the best drummers of all time without putting the name Dennis Chambers near the top, and for a great reason. With no formal music education, Dennis grew up learning music through hearing it, and creating it, on the Baltimore club scene, at the spry age of 6 years old. Since then, Dennis has built up an astounding resume that includes names such as Steely Dan, Tower of Power, Mike Stern, George Duke, George Clinton, and, of course, Carlos Santana, amoungst many others. Known for both his blazing speed and his deep groove, Dennis’ drumming is something that is marveled by all, and idolized heavily in the drumming world.

Throughout this tour, Dennis will be playing on his new Reference Pure kit in the stunning Crystal Rain lacquer, similar to the Reference Series kit he used in 2007. Having had a chance to give the Reference Pure drums a trial run during a clinic earlier this year; Dennis loved the thin-shelled version of Pearl’s award-winning Reference Series drums, especially for the shells’ openness and power, as well as for the low-mass, Fat-tone hoops, which add more resonation to the overall tone of the drum. Dennis’ specs are as follow:

Reference Pure: Crystal Rain (195)

22x18 bass drum
10x8 rack tom
12x8 rack tom
13x9 rack tom
14x14 floor tom
16x16 floor tom
18x16 floor tom
20x14 gong drum
14x6.5- Dennis Chambers Signature Snare Drum
