Under the Stage with Wicked’s Chris Jago
Pearl Artist, Chris Jago, recently finished up a very lengthy residency at the famed Pantages Theater in Hollywood, California where he performed an astounding 96 shows over a 3-month long tenure with the Los Angeles Production of Wicked. A touring rendition of the 10-time Tony Award Winning Broadway musical, Wicked instantly became the must-see show of the Entertainment Capital of the World during its time in Los Angeles, famously known for its captivating story, dazzling production, and for its endlessly catchy and brilliantly written musical score.
The spectacular, rock-influenced drumming of Chris Jago was widely present throughout each of the 96 shows played during Wicked’s Los Angeles residency, with tastefully placed fills and flams perfectly accenting the actions on the stage above him. And, although holed up in a separate drum booth located under the stage- most likely out of fear that he would steal the show- Chris was nice enough to rig up a trusty GoPro camera and piece together a small brief video, which can be viewed below, which captures his experience and actions during the musical.
Chris Jago relied on his 6-piece Reference Series drum set for this run at the Pantages, which served as a local gig for the Los Angeles resident. Finished in the gorgeous Purple Craze II lacquer, Chris’ kit is complete with a custom 24x14 bass drum, 12x8 rack tom, 13x8 rack tom, 16” and 18” floor toms, and topped off with a 14x6.5 Reference Series snare. More information on Chris Jago, including full kit specs on his Reference Series setup, can be found here.
