2012 Contemporary Drums and Percussion Camp

The Contemporary Drums and Percussion Camp is a unique gathering place for students from all over the world.  Students have the opportunity to learn from master musicians including Pearl Percussionists Jose Rosa, Hector “Pocho” Neciosup and Dimas Sanchez. Besides the artists mentioned above, this year’s camp counted with the participation of Alex Acuña, John Riley, Larry Washington and Ekendra Das.

During these 3 days, the students learned a variety of rhythms, history and performed along with a rhythm section. This year, the camp added a new Pro-Tools course, which was a huge success. Jose Rosa and Hector “Pocho” Neciosup discussed and played exercises from their latest book, The Art of Latin Drumming, which has received great reviews.

Dimas Sanchez's Master Class entitled, “Bomba and Plena”, explored traditional Puerto Rican music and brought a new perspective to the camp. Other Contemporary Drums and Percussion Camp highlights included a Rumba between legendary percussionist Alex Acuña, his nephew Hector “Pocho” Neciosup, and camp director Jose Rosa.
