Pearl Makes Music With Alan Valentine

The Nashville Symphony is dedicated to achieving the highest standard for excellence in musical performance. It's President & CEO, Alan D. Valentine, was looking for these same qualities when he decided to purchase a drumkit.

Alan joined the Nashville Symphony in June 1998. Since then, he has presided over an unprecedented period of growth at the Symphony, highlighted by recent GRAMMY® Awards for "Best Classical Album" and "Best Orchestral Performance", and seven GRAMMY® nominations; fifteen highly regarded and best selling CD releases on the Naxos and Decca labels; a total of eight national television broadcasts, one of which recently won an Emmy Award for "Special Event Live;" multiple national radio appearances, including the internationally syndicated radio series "American Encores;" a critically acclaimed Carnegie Hall debut and sold-out East Coast tour in September of 2000; two consecutive and very successful endowment campaigns in which a total of $145 million was raised; and the construction of the world-class, acoustically superb Schermerhorn Symphony Center which opened in September 2006.

As a well-respected member of the Nashville community, many knew of Alan's achievments but had no idea that he had been a professional drummer. “I played on vintage drums for most of my earlier performing career, but when I decided to start playing regularly again, I decided to buy a newer model kit.  I checked out every major brand out there, and I found that Pearl was unquestionably making the best drums on the market.

"Then, I had the great opportunity here in Nashville to play a couple of different kits from the Masters Premium, Masters MCX ,and finally the Reference Series. I was completely blown away with the quality of the Reference Series drums. The individually engineered shells were really the key to the sound and therefore my enthusiasm. The toms had a very even sound across the range of sizes, and the 20-ply wood snare drum – well, I can honestly say that it was the most extraordinary snare drum I have ever played, period," Alan continued.

"I have played all kinds of music – from orchestral to rock, jazz, and country, and between that snare drum and the sound and responsiveness of the bass drum, I felt like I had been transported back in time – to a time when quality really mattered. And, with my new Reference Series kit wrapped in White Marine Pearl, I will feel right at home. I actually think the members of our band are as excited as I am.”

This is another terrific season for the Schermerhorn Symphony Center with events such as the ongoing SunTrust Classical Series, Nashville4Africa, renowned pianist Lang Lang, and 5 Peace Band: Chick Corea & John McLaughlin. See more events at their website www.nashvillesymphony.org
