University of Alabama Percussion Camp

The inaugural edition of the Million Dollar Band High School Marching Percussion Camp took place on the campus of The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, over four days, from July 8 - 11.

During the camp, participants engaged in large-group and small-group sessions led by Thom Hannum, Neal Flum, Julie Davila, David England, Mike Sammons, and the staff of the university marching band: Jay Fox, Alex Hinson, Mike Keeton, Tony Riddle, and Sho Woods. The camp participants also met and interacted with members of the 2010 Million Dollar Band marching percussion section, learning exercises and the school's fight song.  The university's marching percussion audition camp also took place alongside the high school camp, providing many opportunities for interaction between the two groups. Highlights of the camp include visits to Bryant Museum and Bryant-Denny Stadium, where the students received a guided tour.

The camp concluded with a grand finale performance in which the high school students and college percussion section members performed “Yea Alabama”, an original piece titled “JuLLLie DaviLLLa”, and several exercises from Thom Hannum's workbook, Championship Concepts for Marching Percussion.  The Million Dollar Band percussion section went on to perform the full version of "JuLLLie DaviLLLa," as well as its 2010 Fundamentals and Warm-Up Program.
