Travis Orbin Releases Sophomore Solo EP
As his father, Tom Orbin, so perfectly states, “My son is about to show you a thing or two on those drums.”
And does he ever…
Pearl Artist, Travis Orbin released a new solo EP earlier this week- along with a coinciding play-along video from the album’s recording sessions- and, to put it mildly, it’s mind-blowing. The EP, titled Silly String, stands as Travis’ sophomore solo effort following last year’s wildly popular debut, Projects, which was fully composed by Travis in 2009 during his tenure with Sky Eats Airplane. On his website, TravisOrbin.com, Travis also included individual song descriptions of each track on the new album, where he discusses the writing process of each piece and breaks down the highly complex and complicated sections of each song. Travis Orbin’s new solo EP, Silly String, can be purchased here.
For the recording of the album, Travis relied upon his Reference Pure drums in his signature and unmistakable zero-up, two-down setup, and switched between a few different Pearl snare drums, including his 14x6.5 Reference Series Brass snare drum, the 14x6.5 Sensitone Brass snare drum, and a 14x4 Maple Piccolo snare drum. More information on Travis Orbin, including full kit specs, can be found here.
