Ray Luzier Wows Alma Mater with Stellar Drum Clinic

Pearl artist, Ray Luzier, returned to his alma mater last week to deliver a jaw-dropping clinic to the current class of aspiring drummers, faculty, and guests of The Musician’s Institute, in Hollywood, CA.  Ray awed and amazed the cluttered room with his endless talents behind the kit, as well as offering some very helpful advice to the audience of eager rockstar hopefuls.  Ray, a graduate from the Musician’s Institute himself, has always made sure to dedicate some time to give back to the school that assisted in molding him into the drummer he is today, and his tremendous display of drum mastery and insight toward the music industry has served as an inspiring highlight to the up-and-coming musicians in attendance.

Ray Luzier, who is known primarily through his involvement with the multiplatinum, Grammy Award winning, rock empire- Korn, is the perfect musician to feature at such an event.  With a lengthy career filled with several ups and downs, Ray is a prime example of success stemming from an exorbitant amount of passion and persistence, mixed with the must-have, never-say-die mentality.  This thought process has found Ray spending countless hours behind the drums, sitting in on every gig imaginable, and eventually leading him to where he resides today- at the top of the rock drumming podium.

Recently, Ray has been practically living in and out of the studio, writing and recording the new Korn album- which is expected to drop later this summer- and also working with his new side project, KXM- an all-star band that features members of Lynch Mob and King’s X.  In between studio sessions, Ray has also flown overseas for a week-long European clinic tour that surrounded the Musikmesse convention, an appearance and performance at the Guitar Center in Monroeville, PA, and now this return-to-roots master class at the Musician’s Institute in Hollywood, CA.  For the Musician’s Institute clinic, Ray turned to his LA-based Reference Series kit, the same kit he’s using in the studio with both Korn and KXM.  As Korn fans have witnessed throughout the years, Ray has relied on the Reference Series since becoming a member of the prestigious Pearl Drums artist roster back in 2010, as the individuality and varying components found in each shell in the Reference Series line offers Ray the warm, balanced, and full bodied tones needed to capture Korn’s signature sound.  Ray’s full specs are as follow:

Reference Series:
Emerald Mist (126)
w/ Black Hardware

24x18 bass drum
10x8 tom
13x9 tom
16x16 floor tom
18x16 floor tom
20x14 gong drum
14x6.5 Sensitone Brass snare
14x5 Chad Smith Signature snare

From here, for Ray, it’s back to the studio where he’ll be joining his fellow band mates in Korn, including the band’s newly returned guitarist Brian “Head” Welch, to finalize the recording of their new album which is expected to drop at the end of this summer.  For more information on Ray Luzier, and to keep up with his insanely hectic schedule, please be sure to visit his official website, www.RayLuzier.com.  Also be sure to check out Korn's 2013 summer tour dates, which can be seen below.
