Mike Mangini Live with the U-Z Project

Pearl artist, Mike Mangini, sat in as a guest drummer with the legendary progressive artist, Eddie Jobson in Whittier, CA earlier this week. The project, titled the U-Z Project, features the incredible drumming of Mike Mangini, and was established by Eddie in order to form a super-group in homage of the progressive rock genre. Wanting to build this group of the finest musicians around, Eddie insisted that Mike Mangini take the throne to add his technical flair to the mix, expanding the depth of each tune with Mikes powerful drumming and creative approach to the drumset.

With a resume that includes names like Steve Vai, Extreme, and Annihilator, Mike Mangini is considered as one of the top drummers in the world, and for a very good reason. While most have heard of him through being a teacher at the prestigious Berklee School of Music, and by having the title of World’s Fastest Drummer, Mike’s speed around the kit and application of music theory throughout each song that he plays has made him a household name throughout the drumming community. Mike chose to rock a Pearl Reference Series kit in his usual set up which consists of a 10x8 tom, 12x9 tom, 16x16 floor tom, 18x16 floor tom, and 2-22x18 kick drums. Mikes setup was all topped off with a 14x5 Reference Series wood snare drum for added crack and body from the 20 ply shell. All of which was complimented by Mike’s 10x6.2 Signature Snare drum that Mike continually used to pull different tones from by switching the snare wires off and on throughout each song.
