James Murphy Lays it Down in Colombia
Newly welcomed Pearl Artist, James Murphy, has released some stellar footage from his recent performance at the “Pegate Al Parche” Drum Festival in Bogota, Columbia, displaying his incredible drum talents to the packed house of drum fanatics. The footage, which can be viewed below, highlights James’ endless grove and abnormally deep pocket as demonstrated during a timing exercise using a backing track with audible click track. This footage also sheds light to James’ fantastic creativity behind the kit, with each piece of his traditionally minimal setup being used to fulfill countless roles and purposes.
James Murphy, who was welcomed into the Pearl Family earlier this year, serves as an Assistant Professor at the Berklee College of Music, his alma mater, along with offering online lessons throughout his website, PeaceAndDrums.com. James also stands as one of New England’s premier and most sought-after session drummers, being the top choice of artists from all backgrounds and genres, from jazz to hip-hop and everything in between.
For the “Pegate Al Parche” Drum Festival, James relied on the warmth and resonation of Pearl’s 6-ply, all-maple Masters MCX drums, paired with a 14x6.5 Masters MCX snare drum which provided plenty of body, projection, and the precise attack to pick up even the slightest of notes.
More information on James Murphy, including specs on his home-based Masters MCX setup, can be found here.
