Gov't Mule Rocks LA

Gov’t Mule came to Club Nokia in Los Angeles last night and treated the pack crowd to a fantastic evening of great songs and a great live show. Matt Abts, drummer, was laying down the beats for Gov’t Mule last night, as he has been since the band formed in 1994. His solid pocket and groove are especially prominent in his live playing, while his meticulous notes and beautiful touch and precision are picked up beautifully when transitioning into technical sections. As seen below, Matt was playing his Pearl Reference Series kit in Copperfire Sparkle. His kit consists of a booming 24x18 kick, 14x11 rack tom, 16x16 floor tom, and a very loud 14x6.5 Reference Brass snare drum.

Gov’t Mule has been out on the road in support of their upcoming album, “By a Thread” which releases in the US on October 27th. “By a Thread” is the first studio release by the band in over 3 years and, if pre-ordered, Gov’t Mule is giving exclusive downloads of recordings that have been made during their sound-checks throughout their past Summer and Fall tours. The first single off the album titled “Broke Down on The Brazos” has been released on the bands MySpace (www.myspace.com/govtmule) and pictures of Matt jamming away on his reference kit can be viewed below.
