Dream Theater Unveils Details on New Album

It was only a matter of weeks ago that prog-rock legends, Dream Theater, unveiled the exciting news of their new self-titled album, igniting a frenzy amongst their highly devout fan-base whose daily highlight has since become the counting down each day leading up to the album’s September 24th release date.  Well, for those incredibly loyal, almost-obsessive fans who have been religiously marking off their calendars (only 76 more days!!), the anticipation will only grow more as Dream Theater has unveiled the official artwork and track listing to the self self-titled effort- both of which can be found below.

Pearl artist and recently voted Drummer of the Year, Mike Mangini, and his Dream Theater counterparts entered Cover City Studios in Glen Cove, Long Island, to record the new nine-track album, which serves as Mike Mangini’s second recording with the band, but the first album in which he was a part of the writing process from day one.  Speaking on the matter, Dream Theater guitarist, John Petrucci, states:

“When people hear the drumming on this album, they’re gonna be pretty freaked out. On the last album, he did a great job, but he wasn’t there for the writing process and he was interpreting drum parts that I had programmed. Even though he used his creativity, of course, to change them up and do his thing, I feel like now he’s just Mike Mangini unleashed. It’s all him. It’s all his creativity, all his decisions and ideas and man, the guy’s an animal.”

Dream Theater’s new self-titled release will stand as the band’s 12th studio album and the follow-up to their 2010 studio effort, A Dramatic Turn of Events- which earned the band their first Grammy Nomination for the single, “On the Backs of Angels.”  Dream Theater, the album, will be available in a wide range of distinctive versions, including standard and special edition CDs, 180 gram double LP, and a Limited Edition boxed set. Pre-orders are scheduled to launch in July at the Roadrunner Records Webstore, but, in the meantime, to keep up with the latest news and information on the album, and the band, please be sure to visit Dream Theater’s official website-
