Checkin' In with the Chili Pepper's Chad Smith
Chad Smith is a busy, busy guy… To be honest, it’s exhausting just trying to keep up with him. In the process of closing out an almost 2-year long tour cycle that has brought his band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers to countless countries around the globe, playing to millions of fans and selling out the world’s biggest arenas along the way, Chad Smith is somehow finding time in his worldly travels to fit in even more to his seemingly-full schedule. Performing a balancing act that would leave the Ringling Brothers impressed, Chad’s schedule is already filling up into 2014 with studio sessions and performances with his side projects Chickenfoot and the Bombastic Meatbats, drum clinics, spot dates with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, his new podcast series with MusicRadar, and, of course, maintaining the ever growing Chad Smith Drum App.
...The guy has his own App… I mean, how cool is that?!
But that’s the life of a rockstar, I suppose, and the life of one of the world’s most in-demand drummers. For Chad’s unmistakable groove and truly flawless approach to music have kept him on top of the drumming podium for the past 25+ years, making him a household name and an ambassador to the drumming community.
It takes a remarkable amount of talent and popularity for a drummer to become a household name. But given the Red Hot Chili Pepper superstardom- the Grammy Awards, the multiplatinum selling albums, the massive world tours, and numerous chart topping singles- mixed with Chad’s charisma and outgoing personality, Chad Smith has done just that. Last year, Chad launched his incredibly popular iTunes App, the Chad Smith Drum App, which has created a public view into the life of a touring musician and dedicated drummer, along with sharing all of Chad’s upcoming tour dates, news, pictures, videos, or info on any other projects he may be working on. For those wondering how his drumming style came to be, The Chad Smith Drum App also features drum lessons from Chad, tips and tricks, and features insight to other drummers who continue to inspire the world renown drummer.
Along with the highly popular App, MusicRadar.com recently announced a new podcast that will feature a series of intimate one-on-one conversations between Chad and other notable musicians. The first installment to this series will feature Alex Lifeson, guitarist for the legendary Canadian trio- Rush, as the two Hall of Fame musicians enjoy a laugh-filled, leisurely dinner at the Sunset Marquis in West Hollywood, California. Part 1 of In Conversation: Chad Smith with Alex Lifeson, will be released on May 13th, courtesy of MusicRadar.com, with additional installments being published once a week for three consecutive weeks. More information on this In Conversation series can be found here.
Performing wise, Chad is slamming away on his custom Pearl Masters Series drums throughout the last leg of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ lengthy world tour. Spanning the globe in support of their 2011 release, I’m With You, Chad Smith and the Chili Peppers brought their electrifying live show around the world and back…and then around again, and then back again… trying to keep up with the constant demand that their highly devout fan base bestows on the remarkably admired rockers. But the end of this monumental world tour doesn’t mean the Chili Peppers’ days will be spent relaxing poolside, enjoying fruity drinks with umbrellas in them….at least, not for Chad. With 2 other amazing music projects looming in the shadows- Chickenfoot and The Bombastic Meatbats- along with his forthcoming clinic schedule- which includes a stop at the 2013 Drum! Magazine: Drum Night- Chad is slated to remain in the drumming spotlight up until he’s back on another massive world tour.
