Chad Smith vs. Will Ferrell: The Showdown.

As if donating his custom Limited Edition Series NFL-themed Pearl drum set that was used during the Halftime Show of Super Bowl XLVIII to the Make-A-Wish foundation wasn’t enough, Pearl artist, Chad Smith has accepted a challenge from comedic movie star and real life doppelganger, Will Ferrell, to the ultimate drum battle to benefit the Cancer for College Fund.

The idea was birthed when Ferrell participated a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) session, stating, "It has been acknowledged many times that myself and Chad Smith, drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, share a resemblance to each other," Ferrell continued, "A lot of people think that it's me playing for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But that would be an insult to Chad Smith. The truth of the matter is there is no Will Ferrell. Only Chad Smith."

This email by Ferrell prompted a response from the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Smith, turning to the Instagram account of Funny Or Die, stating to Ferrell, “Stop impersonating me!”  Smith continues, “Drum battle, me and you.  I've seen your skills — you don't got 'em.”

The full exchange, which ended up taking place on Chad Smith’s post-Super Bowl appearance Reddit session, can be seen in the screen capture below.

The proceeds of this guaranteed-must-see drum-off for charity comes in part to Will Ferrell’s ongoing Cancer for College fundraising campaign where fans can help make this battle happen by donating to the cause. Those who donate will also be entered for a chance to hang out with Ferrell at his Desert Showdown charity golf tournament in Palm Springs, Calif., next month. Once that goal of $300,000 is met, check back to for the drum off details!
