Andy Blanco Joins Pearl/Adams
Pearl Drums and Adams Musical Instruments welcomes Andy Blanco to our Concert Performing Artist Roster. Andy Blanco is currently the percussionist for The Color Purple First National Tour. As an active freelancer in the New York area, he enjoys performing in a variety of musical situations. In the theater, Andy has performed with The Lion King, Tarzan and The Color Purple. As an orchestral musician, Mr. Blanco has performed with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, Albany Symphony, Chattanooga Symphony, and the Huntsville Symphony. He has worked under the direction of many notable conductors including Pierre Boulez, James Levine, Kurt Masur and Michael Tilson Thomas. As a chamber musician, Andy was a founding member of the Elektra Chamber Players and has collaborated with the percussionists of the New York Philharmonic.Andy Blanco earned both a Bachelor’s Degree in Classical Percussion and a Master’s Degree in Orchestral Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, where he received the Pablo Casals Award in 2004. Andy has served as the percussion coach of the Norwalk Youth Symphony, the Interschool Orchestras of New York and has performed in various school programs created for the New York Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall and the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas.Andy can be heard on the first released recording of Thomas Pasatieri’s opera The Seagull and Broadway’s Greatest Gifts: Carols for a Cure 2007. He has recorded for the PBS TV Special Heavenly Voices and the soundtrack for the film Interior Design by Michel Gondry.
