Almeida Duo Asian Tour

Chad Floyd, assistant professor of music and director of percussion studies at Campbellsville University in Kentucky, performed an international tour of Japan and South Korea as drummer for the Brazilian based group Almeida Duo in June of 2012. The members of the duo are Saulo DeAlmeida (cello, basses, piano) and Dennis Santos (flutes, saxophone, piano). Both members of the duo are adjunct professors of music at Campbellsville University.

The 11-day tour included over 15 performances at several universities, churches, high schools, and city venues in and around Tokyo (Japan), Busan, and Incheon (South Korea). Performances included Dong Eui University, Korea Baptist University, John Tokyo Church, Busan Girls High School, Busan Port Logistics High School, the famed Busan Cinema Center, and several more. The group performed for diverse audiences including four different services in three different languages (Korean, Japanese, and Chinese) in one day at John Tokyo Church. At the universities, the members of the group were able to provide feedback and instruction on student performances in various settings.

Prior to the tour, the group performed at several venues in central Kentucky in preparation. The duo will be performing a 20-day tour in Brazil in July of 2012, followed by performances in the southeast US in the fall of 2012. The repertoire of the group is quite diverse, but can be classified broadly as jazz with strong influences of the popular Brazilian musical styles such as samba and bossa nova.
