Matt Ownby is a professional composer, arranger, and educator from the Detroit Michigan area. He earned a Bachelors degree in music performance from Western Michigan University, a Masters degree in music performance from UNLV, a Masters degree in music education from UNLV, and is currently a doctoral candidate in percussion at UNLV, where he also served as Adjunct Professor of Percussion Studies. His published compositions and arrangements have been performed by ensembles throughout North America and Europe and he has been a feautured
marimba soloist at the National University of Mexico in Mexico City on numerous occasions. Matt is also an adjudicator for Drum Corps International, Drum Corps Associates, and the Michigan Competing Band Association, and he regularly judges competitive and rated events in many states across the country.
Performance credits include The Four Tops, The Temptations, Martha Reeves, Mary Wilson, and Elton John, as well as the Las Vegas Philharmonic, Nevada Symphony Orchestra, The Las Vegas Percussion Quartet, and The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. During his time with The Cavaliers he was a member of the World Champion 1992 corps, the World Champion front ensemble in 1992 and 1993, and he is a DCI Individuals World Champion.
Matt is a music educator in the Novi Community Schools District in Novi Michigan, and the Director and Founder of Number 6 Independent Percussion Ensemble.
