Clarence "Klue" Lewis
T. Mills - United States
OverviewBorn Clarence Lee Lewis IV on August 5th 1988 in San Francisco California’s Fillmore District later to move to Hunters Point and later to an East Bay city by the name of Antioch, made his way to Los Angeles in 2010. He is no stranger to the world of percussion. Clarence also known as “Klue” and the “Shirtless Drummer” a name given to him by friend and Columbia/Sony recording artist T.Mills has been playing the drums since the tender age of two. Recalled by elders as “Always banging on pots and pans”, he was inspired by his musically inclined father and heavily moved by the sounds of the church.
Clarence quickly began to learn music and instruments by ear. He grew up on the sounds and influences of groups such as Earth, Wind, and Fire, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and countless others. Growing up his passion for music was undeniable, by the time he reached high school he had branched out to several genres of the art. Embracing Jazz and finding a love for fusion and experimental music, Clarence’s dream of becoming a professional drummer and living greatly off of it was just a thought that later turned into his reality. Clarence understood the importance of education and cultivating his craft and enrolled in the Los Medanos City College and later the Musicians Institute. It was there at Los Medanos that Professor Sylvester Henderson, who served as the music department chair placed him under his guidance and care. Henderson enlightened Clarence on the business matter and other vital aspects of music. As an active mentor, Henderson pushed Clarence to explore and take charge of the industry. In addition to later attending the Musicians Institute, Clarence was blessed in receiving private instruction by Fred Dinkens (Emotions, Tremaine Hawkins) and credits a few influential sit downs with peers and some of his biggest inspirations, his friends Dezon Claiborne (Berkeley jazz school in Oakland ) and Brandon Ransburg (Eric Claybon an reign/Derrick hall &company) for assisting in his success.
Above all Clarence gives thanks to God for blessing him with the talent and ability to share it with the world. He devotes his love and passion for music to God and his craft. His dream and drive is to play with purpose, by shining the light of Christ to younger musicians attempting to move in the same direction. Keeping God first in all that he's done, and remembering that he is the director of his paths Clarence has been blessed with countless opportunities to work with phenomenal people.
Today Clarence can be spotted working with Columbia/Sony Artist TMills, Universal Music Group Artist Stacy Barthe, M.I.A/Interscope Artist Blaqstarr, AMX of MBA Entertainment, Elliot Yamin (American Idol Season 5), and a host of Indie Artist like Rochelle Jordan, TAPS and TC Bereal just to name a few.
