Montgomery Hatch
New York City Opera / Hofstra University - United States

Overview

A multi-faceted performer and educator, Montgomery Hatch enjoys an active musical career spanning from California to New York.

A native of the west coast, Mr. Hatch lived in Los Angeles and San Francisco, working with orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Honolulu Symphony, and Oakland East Bay Symphony among others.  He has done film scores and recording sessions at Fox Studios, Skywalker Ranch, and the Music Center in downtown LA, and performed in numerous jazz, chamber, and rock ensembles.

In 2007 Mr. Hatch moved to New York City after winning a position with the New York City Opera, where he continues to maintain a busy schedule.  In addition to his duties with the NYC Opera, he performs with the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Ballet, and Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, as well as a wide variety of chamber and freelance groups.  He has performed with pop artists including Mary J. Blige, Andrea Bocelli, Rufus Wainwright, Amy Grant, and Josh Groban, and his Broadway and theater credits include productions of: Radio City Music Hall’s A Christmas Spectacular, West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera, City of Angels, State Fair, Gunmetal Blues, The Wizard of Oz, The Wiz, Into the Woods, Peter Pan, Fame, The Princess and the Pea, and Pippin.

As an advocate of new music, Mr. Hatch has performed with ensembles including the Lyric Chamber Society of New York, Berkeley Contemporary Players, Empyrian Ensemble, and Santa Cruz New Music Works.  He has been a participant of the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music and the Festival of New American Music, as well as performed at conventions for the Percussive Arts Society and the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States. 

A dedicated educator, Mr. Hatch currently heads the percussion department at Hofstra University in Long Island, NY.  He founded the Long Island Percussion Workshop and is a regular clinician across the United States.  His articles have been published in Percussive Notes, and his compositions are available through Tapspace Publications.
